The Prince of Egypt is a DreamWorks animated musical film starring the voices of Val Kilmer, Ralph Fiennes, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Sandra Bullock... oh, and yours truly. I played Young Miriam, Moses’s sister, who helps her mother put the infant Moses in a basket and send him down the river to save his life. I actually got the job in a rather odd way. I was doing a benefit for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation called “Kids with Heart.” Stephen Schwartz, who wrote the music and lyrics for Prince of Egypt, sent an assistant to go scout out the kids in the show, and bring back the names of three possible Miriams to record for the demo stages of the project. Well, for some reason, all the other kids got pumped up on adrenaline that night and ended up belting out their numbers like Merman. I was such a pro that I didn’t succumb to the temptation to compete. It turns out the assistant came back with only one name: mine! Because I was the only one who displayed any tenderness in the show. I guess going with your gut pays off! I did all the demos, and then got cast in the film. You can watch the clip below!
